About Me
I'm Kevin, born and raised in Northeast Ohio. I'm a software engineer working in the free knowledge space, particularly on projects related to Wikimedia. I've been an avid Wikipedia editor and contributor to the Wikimedia movement for over 15 years.
In 2017, I graduated from Ohio State with a bachelor's in Computer Science and Engineering. In 2022, I graduated from Kent State with a master's in Library and Information Science. I'm passionate about the intersection of technology and librarianship, and how technology can help facilitate the dissemination of knowledge.
Out of college, I worked for Capital One for nearly 7 years on a variety of projects, including developer platforms, data infrastructure, cybersecurity tools, and other internal applications used across the company. I also did contract work for the Wikimedia Foundation to develop View it!, a suite of web tools to help Wikipedia readers and editors more easily discover rich media while exploring topics.
Other projects I've developed include Commons Gallery, a web application that allows Wikimedia Commons users to create and explore portfolios; Cite Unseen, a widget that embeds icons on Wikipedia citations to indicate the nature and reliability of sources; and Indie Wiki Buddy, a browser extension that helps users discover and support independent wikis. My portfolio details more of this work.
In 2024, I decided to start freelancing to focus more on open knowledge projects. In early 2024, I co-founded WikiPortraits, an organization that sends Wikimedia photographers to cover events as press. I've also recently co-founded WikiHaus, a hub for innovative wiki events, creative spaces, and learning. One of our biggest initiatives is WikiGameJam, a series of game james to build games powered by Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects.
I currently serve on the Board of Wikimedia District of Columbia and am a co-founder and organizer of the Ohio Wikimedians User Group. I also actively organize several annual Wikimedia events, including WikiConference North America, WikiCredCon, and Wiki Loves Monuments in the United States.
